Dried Strawberry Chips for a Healthy Snack

Homemade Strawberry Chips

A while ago on our Instagram, I posted these Dried Strawberry Chips for a Healthy Snack. There were some followers that wanted to know how to make them but, sorry, I had forgotten to post a tutorial until now! This post will be short and sweet because they are so easy to make!

All you need to make Dried Strawberry Chips for a Healthy Snack is:

  • Strawberries
  • Straw
  • Dehydrator (or low temp oven)

How to make Strawberry Chips

  1. First, wash and prep your strawberries. By prep, I mean get the stems off. Did you see our post on how to hull a strawberry? Use this technique to go make this part go really fast. Without having to cut the top off of the strawberry, it will cut out extra waste too.hull a strawberry
  2. Next cut them all in half (smaller strawberries). For the really big strawberries you may consider cutting them in slices. Keep the slices at 1/2 inch so they aren’t too thin and fragile once dried.
  3. The last step is where you learn how you make them into chips instead of dried berry [pellets]. The trick is in how you dry them. If you put them in the dehydrator seeds down, they will dry into strawberry nuggets, shrinking in every direction. If you place them seeds up, they will flatten! I don’t ad sugar or any preservative powders to mine, just pure strawberry. dehydrated strawberry chips
  4. Turn on your dehydrator to 135 degrees fahrenheit and let them dry for 24 hours or until crunchy.

That is it, now you can take healthy yummy snacks with you where ever you go! Look for sales on berries from local farmers, i was able to buy a pallet for 6 dollars. That is a lot of berries!

As a last and final note. I have this dehydrator {above} and it as dried an insane amount of things over the last 5 years. Never had a problem with it. But, every time I have a large batch of something, I dream of having the one that my mom has, THE EXCALIBUR {below}. Doesn’t the name EXCALIBUR just sound like you need it? Yet another thing to my wishlist…
